This definitely helps. You are correct; I did choose the second option. Now I understand why it must be saved as a resource file. Once again, thank you so much for your help. Deep admiration for your blog and the help you provide.

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for your question.

Sorry, I skipped some steps in the article. I do that often when writing articles for intermediate to advanced InfoPath users.

To answer your first question, you must save the XML file as a "Resource File" in your form template. By doing this, it will become and be saved as a file that is part of the form template (XSN). So even if you move the form template, the template will always be able to find the XML file, because it is stored within the form template itself.

After you select the XML file in the Data Connection Wizard and click Next, you'll arrive on a screen where you can select how to access the file.

The default option is "Include the data as a resource file in the form template or template part". You probably chose the second option? You have to select the first option. Sorry, I should have written the following instruction in the article: "Accept the default settings and click Next".

To answer your second question in what to create the XML file: Just open Notepad, copy and paste the contents from the article in Notepad, and save the file as an XML file. When saving in Notepad, select "All Files" from the "Save as type" drop-down and then type the full file name (with an .xml extension) in the "File name" field. This will save the file with an extension of .xml instead of .txt.

Hope this helps.

Hello S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton,

I admire all of your work and your efforts to help others. I have been using many of your infopath solutions. This article did remind of a question I have alawys wanted to ask you.

I follwed the instructions on "How to submit the rows of a repeating table on infopath into a SharePoint list" http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2007/how-to-submit-items-rows-repeating-table-infopath-sharepoint-list.htm

I follwed the process and the code works great on my test form. I am about to deploy the form on the production Sharepoint Server and I would like for it to be done right.

My question is about the step - "Create an XML file with the following contents and call it CustomListCAML.xml" Where do I create and save the XML, so that once the final form is published, it runs smoothly? On my test form, I made the mistake of saving the XML file on my personal compute and creating the infopath xml data connection to the xml file on my computer. Now that the test form is published, when sharepoint users want to fill out the form, an error shows up. My guess is that it is not finding the the xml document saved on my personal computer. On the other hand, I have no trouble opening, filling, and submitting the form.

The answer may be simple, but again, my questions is where do I save the xml form? I know it must be on sharepoint, somewhere where the form can always have access to it, but I dont know where exactly? A data connection library? your instructions do not specify where. Where did you save your xml file?

Also, did you use Sharepoint designer to create the XML file? Please advice me on this problem.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Thank you,

Carlos F.
