This is lesson 5 in the InfoPath training videos series. The InfoPath training videos series is a series of free step-by-step video tutorials that take beginners from knowing nothing about InfoPath to creating form templates in InfoPath.
InfoPath forms are XML files that are linked to an InfoPath form template. An InfoPath form template has a file extension of .XSN, while an InfoPath form has a file extension of .XML.
You can use InfoPath 2007 to create and design InfoPath form templates. Once you’ve published an InfoPath form template, you can use it to create and fill out InfoPath forms.
InfoPath forms can be filled out using the InfoPath 2007 client application or through a browser such as Internet Explorer. The latter types of forms are called browser-enabled InfoPath forms and require that you have InfoPath Forms Services installed and enabled on a SharePoint server.
The InfoPath video tutorial above shows you how to create a basic InfoPath form template in InfoPath 2007. You’ll learn how to add layout tables and text box controls to a form template, save the form template, and publish it to a network location.
You’ll also learn which files an InfoPath form template consists of and how you can extract form files from the XSN.
