InfoPath Q&A: Can MySQL data be accessed from InfoPath?

by S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton

Learn how you can use web services to retrieve and submit data from an InfoPath form to a MySQL database.

Petter asks:

Can we insert data from our MySql into a form that we only are alowed to fill in, not edit.

Hi Petter,

If you can create a web service to access the data from your MySql database, you can use a Receive data connection to that web service in InfoPath.

Any data source for which InfoPath does not have native data adapters, as is the case with MySql databases, can be accessed through web services.

Hope this answers your question.

Update (Nov 5, 2008):
Because I’ve noticed that many of you are looking to use MySQL with InfoPath, I’ve written the following article detailing how to retrieve data from your MySQL database and display this in InfoPath: How to get data from a MySQL database into InfoPath using a Web Service.
