Ask the InfoPath Expert

by S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton

What is this post all about?
If you have a question about InfoPath and have searched high and low to find an answer on the Internet or elsewhere, you can post a comment to this blog post to ask your question here, to me. I won’t promise that I’ll answer every question posted here and reserve the right to choose to answer questions that I think might benefit the entire InfoPath community.

Before you ask a question…
Search the following sites to see whether your question has already been asked and answered:
  1. Public InfoPath Newsgroup
  2. InfoPath Forms Services Forum
  3. InfoPath Dev Forum

How can you help me help you?
You’ll help me to serve you better, if you take a few minutes to answer the following questions when you post your question:

  1. What kind of form are you creating? What is it going to be used for?
  2. Which version of InfoPath are you using?
  3. If you are using InfoPath 2007, are you creating a browser form?
  4. Are you using this form with SharePoint, Outlook, Access, Excel, Word, SQL Server, or any other Microsoft product. If you are, which other product are you using this form with?
  5. How long have you been using InfoPath?
  6. Are you a developer / programmer? If you are, what is your preferred programming language?
  7. What does the company you work for do? Which industry is the company you work for in?

Your answers will help me assess how to best approach answering your question. Your answers will not be posted on my blog along with your question. This is to ensure your privacy.

How long will it take?
I should have an answer within a couple of days if not sooner. If I have not created a blog post with your question and an answer within 1 week, you can safely assume that I do not have an answer to your question and/or that your question has already been asked and answered somewhere on the Internet.

In a nutshell…

  • You search the web for InfoPath info to see whether your question has already been asked.
  • You ask a question if you did not find an answer.
  • I’ll create a blog post if I have an answer.
  • I’ll give you credit for asking the question by mentioning your name in the blog post. If you would like to remain anonymous, just let me know that you would like to remain anonymous in your comment and I’ll honour your request.
  • Your original question (comment to this blog post) will not become visible to the public.

To view the questions that have already been asked via this post, you can go to the InfoPath Q&A Archive.

Thanks for posting your questions.
